How to Fix a Weak Wireless Connection from a Desktop PC

A Cisco-Valet Plus Wireless Router

There are a couple ways to remedy a weak wireless connection to or from a desktop PC:

The slow clean, "I like to spend some time with my computer" method

If the desktop is running an internal wireless card, It's time for an upgrade to a usb adapter. If it is running a USB adapter and it's slow, it's probably running Wireless G. *Make sure you have a free USB port open before you purchase. It's time to upgrade both the USB adapter and the wireless router to Wireless N.

What You Need:

1. A Desktop PC running Windows XP or higher

2. A Cisco-Linksys AE1000 High-Performance Wireless-N Adapter

3. A Cisco-Valet Plus Wireless Router

The Quick and Dirty Plug and Play Method

1. A Desktop PC, or any other electronic device you want on your home network (TV's, Home Theatre, Etc.)

2. The Linksys PLTK300 PowerLine Network Kit

This option uses a home's power outlet system as a network. To add another device to the network, all that is needed is to plug the new gadget in.

Choose the Best Tablet PC

Great Back to School Pricing on this Archos 7 Tablet!

  $149.99 @ TigerDirect!

Article by John Pope

The iPad was the tablet PC that started the whole frenzy for touch screen tablet PCs. If you are reading this article you probably want to buy yourself a touch tablet PC as well. So which should you choose? Which could be the best tablet PC?

You could choose to go for the now very famous (maybe even too famous) iPad. It is a bit pricey (with its 500 dollar price tag), but this usually happens with all Apple products. You will be able to have loads of fun with your Apple iPad because of the fact that there are many different applications for this product. You can even start playing iPad games which have pretty advanced graphics and an innovative control system through the touch screen. The iPad is definitely one of the best tablet PC devices around. Unfortunately it is rather expensive and some of us would prefer a low cost tablet.

If what you are looking for is a low cost tablet PC then you might want to go for the inexpensive Archos tablets. A tablet you might decide to choose if you prefer surfing the internet is the Archos 5 tablet. The ARCHOS 5 Internet Tablet will even have an included personal GPS travel guide. You will be able to carry the Archos 5 just about everywhere and successfully use it. The great thing about this tablet PC is that it is rather inexpensive.

Do you want a tablet for home use? Then go for the Archos 7. The Archos 7 is a new IT product designed to be of use to the whole family. Ever dreamed of a sci fi digital house? Then this is the first step in accomplishing your dream.  The great thing is it costs no more than 199 dollars, or 129 British pounds. It is a real bargain.

Asus also manufactures interesting tablet PCs. There are many other companies that now produce touch screen devices. The only way you can really find out which is the best tablet PC for you is to analyze as many models that are currently on the market. Start with the famous iPad; try finding out more info about the reliable Asus products and cheap Archos tablets. Only after you will have done all this should you buy the best tablet PC for yourself.

How To Install Wifi on a Desktop

There's one burning question I keep seeing come up in the keyword searches that lead to my blog. "How to Install Wifi on Desktop". I haven't really directly addressed it because I guess I underestimated how many people are still using desktop computers. So here we go. I hope this helps.

What You Need:

The first step is determining what kind of internet provider you use.

You can get internet to your home a couple ways.

1. Cable broadband or DSL through a modem.

If you want to look for an internet provider in your area, Click Here

If you already have Broadband, you have something that looks like one of these:

Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router (DGND3700)

It is now connected with a cable directly to your computer.

Advantages - Blazing fast downloads. You can stream video and download music at dizzying speeds.

Disadvantages - Cable companies have monopolies in many cities and towns. Because of this they can raise your rates without much notice.

***See this post if you are tired of that like I was.  How to Save on Subscription TV and Groceries with Amazon Prime

If you get your internet with Cable broadband or DSL, you simply need one of these:

Cisco-Linksys E3000 High-Performance Wireless-N Router

This hooks up to the modem.

It is a wireless router. It will wirelessly broadcast an internet connection from the modem, to the wireless router then to all the computers in your home. Cisco/Linksys in particular has phenominal online tools and phone support making it a snap for beginners to set up.

If you don't have a cable or DSL connection you might consider getting mobile wifi through your mobile phone provider.

Advantages - This connection is portable and can go with you anywhere. So if you live somewhere part of the year and somewhere else the rest, or travel a lot, you'll really get your money out of this.

Disadvantages - Today wireless 3G and even wireless 4G technology isn't fast enough for streaming video or downloading big files. But if you just want to check email, chat with a buddy on facebook or surf the internet you are good to go.

If you don't have a mobile phone you can still purchase just wifi from a mobile provider.

You'll pay a monthly fee for data transfer and they'll likely give you one of these:

Medialink - Wireless N USB Adapter - 802.11n - 150Mbps - 2.4ghz - Windows 2000 / XP / Vista 64-Bit /128-Bit Windows 7 Compatible

If you have a couple computers you want to use wifi on, you can get one of these to get wifi on them all:

CradlePoint PHS300 Personal Hotspot - Wireless access point - 802.11b/g (Version 2.0/2.5.3)

Best of luck to the Desktop users reading this. If anything you'll get rid of a few more wires behind your desk.
