Motorola Atrix Remains A High Powered And Highly Desirable Smartphone

The Future of Wireless Connectivity: The Atrix
Article by: Thomas Whittle

Motorola Atrix 4G Android Phone (AT&T)The Atrix represents a benchmark for Motorola, and in fact the smartphone industry as a whole. While being the first dual core smartphone to see release in many markets (although LG's Optimus 2X beats the Atrix to it in Europe and Asia), the Atrix is also a perfect example of converging technologies. With the ever increasing processing power that is being put into the latest mobile phones, many people have wondered if their use can be extended beyond that of a traditional smartphone.

AT&T Laptop Dock for Motorola ATRIX 4G (Retail Packaging)The Motorola Atrix is the first phone to really try and test this out and comes with a number of docking ports to transform the Atrix into much more than a standard smartphone. The most noticeable of these is the laptop dock, which in itself is a lifeless shell of a device. On the back there is a slot into which the Atrix can be placed, at which point the laptop dock transforms into a fully functional netbook. This comes with its own operating system, known as WebTop, which can run a number of high powered applications including a fully tabbed version of Firefox.

HD Multimedia Dock for Motorola ATRIX™ 4G*Also available is a media dock which, once the Atrix is slotted into place, allows you to easily access all of the media content stored on the phone through a TV with its own menu system in operation. Additionally, there is a SatNav dock into which you can place the Atrix while driving your car, making good use of the navigation software and GPS of the phone.
Even regardless of these peripheral docks the Atrix remains a high powered and highly desirable smartphone. As mentioned previously, it is one of the first dual core handsets to make it to the public with dual core ARM Cortex A9 1GHz processors with hardware acceleration and 1GB RAM. The Atrix comes with a 4" capacitive touchscreen with a high resolution of 540 x 960.
Running on Google Android 2.2 the Atrix also comes with Motorola's MotoBlur user interface. The original version of this interface saw the introduction of social networking integration, and the UI on the Atrix also puts this to good use. Facebook and Twitter are fully integrated, with Live Widgets available on the phone's homepage.
The Atrix comes with Adobe Flash and YouTube support so you can enjoy video content online, and you can also enjoy it offline with 16GB available for music and video. A further 32GB can be supplied via microSD. The Atrix can support the playback of 1080p video as well as coming with an HDMI port and DLNA enabled Wi-Fi allowing you to enjoy video through the comfort of your home TV. At point of sale the Atrix's 5 megapixel camera supports 720p video recording, but via a future software update it will also support 1080p video.
Genuine Motorola Atrix 4G Car Dock - AT&TThe peripheral docking ports available with the Atrix truly are innovative but are not a necessity. Even without these extra devices the Atrix remains a high powered and ground breaking device. It packs a lot of hardware power and comes with entertainment features that are virtually second to none. In today's mobile phone market the Atrix seems to be one of the latest devices that is pushing the boundaries.
